Quartz
16 What is Quartz?
Quartz is an igneous rock composed of oxygen and silicon atoms and it is the second most abundant mineral on the planet. It can be used to make kitchen and bath countertops. It is also one of the top countertop materials purchased by builders, contractors and homeowners besides marble and granite.
17 Is Quartz a Natural Stone?
Quartz is most definitely a natural mineral but it is not natural stone. Unlike natural stone like marble, granite and soapstone, quartz countertops are man made products. Along with containing natural quartz stone, they also contain resins, colors and other materials to enhance its strength, durability and style.
18 What is the durability and sustainability of quartz?
Quartz is one of the most durable minerals on the planet. Hence, quartz countertops will have a very long lifespan as long as they are taken good care of. Purchasing quartz countertops from reliable sources like GlobalFair can ensure countertops that last a lifetime.
19 What is the difference between Quartz and Natural Stone?
Quartz countertops differ from natural stones in several ways. Natural stones usually have complex patterns whereas quartz surfaces are consistent. As opposed to natural tones, quartz is non-porous and stain-, heart-, scratch-, and mold-resistant. Also, quartz requires very little maintenance.
20 What is the price difference between Quartz and other Natural stones?
Natural stones and quartz are premium countertop materials. Natural stones like granite countertops cost $80 to $175 per square foot. Quartz, on the other hand, costs around $80 to $140 per square foot. Pricing however depends on other factors such as tariffs and taxation.
21 Does GlobalFair offer Quartz in a variety of colors and designs?
Yes, at GlobalFair you can find quartz in a variety of colors and designs. Quartz countertops are composed of 93% natural quartz. Variations in color, pattern, size, shape, and shade are inherent and unique characteristics to be expected with quartz products. Hence we first get our samples approved by customers before production. At GlobalFair, you can find solid warm, and cool gray countertops to bold tones that will make your space one of a kind.
22 Where is quartz made?
Initially, quartz is mined and then manufacturers purchase the mineral as per their quality and needs. The minerals are crushed into smaller and uniform pieces. These crushed pieces comprise up to 9% of the engineered countertop along with polymeric resin. This makes the stone strong and durable.
23 Do quartz countertops contain pure quartz?
Quartz countertops contain 90% pure quartz. The rest of the countertops contain resins, polymers, and various types of hues which make the materials durable and non-porous.
24 Where can you use quartz slabs inside your home?
Quartz countertops are ideal for kitchen and bathroom as their aesthetic appeal can vamp up the overall interior set up. Their non-porous quality makes them perfect for areas where food is being prepared and served. Furthermore, they can also be utilized in wall panels, stairways, customized flooring and furniture. Their adaptable nature makes them ideal for almost all indoor spaces.
25 What are the benefits of using quartz slabs?
Quartz slabs are highly durable, scratch free, heat resistant and non-porous. They are also highly stain resistant making them ideal for all spaces. The best quality of quartz slabs is that they are easy to maintain. They can be cleaned with just mild soap water and damp cloth. Along with this quartz countertops are also highly visually appealing.
26 What are the ways to maintain outdoor Quartz Countertops?
Quartz countertops are extremely durable and low maintenance. However, a few tips will ensure their longevity. Avoiding direct sun exposure will go a long way to maintain the look of outdoor countertops. Moreover, keeping in mind the weather condition and then installing outdoor countertops will also prove to be beneficial.
27 How are Quartz Countertops Made?
Quartz minerals are mined. Then, they are ground into an aggregate and later fused with resin that binds the rock under intense pressure and heat to form quartz slabs.
28 How can you take care of Quartz Countertops?
Like wood or natural stone, quartz countertops do not need to be sealed. Quartz countertops can be cleaned with the aid of a wet cloth or towel and some soapy water. In case of stains, gentle cleaning scrubs will suffice. Scouring pads must be avoided at all costs as they can dull the countertop surface.
Natural Stones
29 What is natural stone?
“Natural stone” refers to various products quarried from earth which are used over many years as building materials. Granite, marble, limestone, slate, quartz, travertine, sandstone are some of these products. Natural stone products vary from one another in terms of composition, color and texture. Hence, they are usually one of a kind and give a distinctive edge when used for decorative purposes.
30 What are the different types of natural stones?
The various types of natural stone products are as follows:
a) GRANITE - Granite is unequaled for elegance and durability that require little maintenance. Granite is the ideal material for use in large-scale structural projects like walls, monuments, and supports due to its extraordinary strength and density. Products made of granite are excellent for use as external decorative applications, vanities, countertops, and flooring.
b) MARBLE - Marble may be used anywhere in the house and is admired for its classic design, texture, and high-gloss polish in addition to a wide range of exquisite hues. Marble is one of the most adaptable decorative stones since it comes in solid or strikingly veined variations and can be carved or sculpted in many different ways.
c) LIMESTONE - Modern casual and easy lifestyles are ideal for the subdued, gentle tones of limestone. Products made of limestone are perfect for low-traffic, informal settings like baths, fireplaces, countertops, and flooring.
d) QUARTZITE - Quartz is a rock akin to slate with a medium grained texture and amazing resilience that shimmers and sparkles with tiny quartz crystals. Quartzite is frequently used in ornamental tiles and wall veneers. It is the ideal choice for flooring both inside and outside, including in locations with high traffic and exposure to the elements, due to its naturally non-skid texture.
e) SANDSTONE - It is simple to understand why sandstone products have been used for walls, floors, and pavers for thousands of years thanks to its homogeneous texture, attractive diversity of hues and finishes, and weather resistant sturdiness.
f) SLATE - Slate naturally separates into layers with exquisite textures because it was formed over a long period of time by sedimentary deposition and compression. Slate products are frequently used for flooring, cladding, and landscaping because they are strong and stain-resistant.

31 What is the difference between natural stone and man-made stone?
The main distinction is that natural stone comes from nature, whereas man made stones like quartz and ceramics are manufactured manually. The majority of man made stones are not as durable as natural ones. Natural stone normally just needs little restoration if it has been stained or scraped, unlike damaged man-made stones, which typically need to be replaced.
32 What are the different finishes for natural stone products?
The different types of stone finishes include:
a) Natural Cleft - Slate is the only material with a surface that is slightly irregular but still suitable for flooring. This finish develops spontaneously during the quarring of the slate layers; it cannot be manufactured. It is possible to gauge one side (the back side) to make "thin set" installation simpler. Only suited for wall applications, some marbles, sandstones, and limestones are available with extensive clefting.
b) Polished - A high gloss, mirror-like surface is produced by grinding, sanding, and polishing.
c) Honed - The finish is produced by grinding and sanding, and it is not glossy. This works best in settings with heavy usage and little upkeep.
d) Flamed - To create a flamed surface, expose the stone to a high-temperature torch flame, which burns the majority of the carbon content while leaving textured quartzites with a mild colouring.
e) Sandblasted - By applying a high pressure sand blast to the stone's surface, a rough but neat appearance has been produced.
f) River Wash - This treatment, which frequently covers granite, offers a non-slip surface while preserving the colour and grain pattern of the stone.
g) Leather - This polish gives the stone a suede-like appearance and feel. This surface's texture is slick and non-slip.
h) Tumbled - A mixture of sand, water, and weak acid is used to tumble stones to give them an aged appearance.
i) Veneer Stone - Any stone used as decorative wall cladding that is not intended to support weight. Veneer can be produced with a variety of surface treatments, including split face, cleft, honed, polished, flamed, or tumbled.
j) Gauged v/s Ungauged - Tiles are created by carving slate from blocks. It is gauged when it is split by a machine or saw because a uniform thickness is created. Ungauged stone has a thickness range of up to 5/8 of an inch and is hand-cleft.

33 Can natural stone be used for the exterior of residential and commercial buildings?
Due to their vulnerability to harsh weather conditions and potential for cracking, crumbling, or fading, natural stone is better suited for interior purposes than external ones. However, stones with naturally slip-resistant surfaces can be used for outdoor walks or patios.
34 Why pick granite over different stones?
Granite is the hardest and densest of all natural stones – the feldspar content in granite keeps it water resistant, and the silicates won't react with acid. These properties help Granite resist staining and retain its fine luster for a very long time. Hence, they are prefered over other natural stones like ceramic tiles or marbles. Hence, granite is picked over other natural stones.
